Crimean peninsula is under Russian control

In March, the people of the Crimean peninsula voted to leave the Ukrainian Federation and move under Russian control. In response, Russian forces moved to the region from the naval base in Sevastopol, backed by troops from mainland Russia. On 3 March, the Russian navy blockaded the Southern Naval Base and moved in with its forces. By the end of the day, both sides declared the peninsula under Russian control. As of June, the peninsula remains under Russian control.

Ivory Coast faces a drug crisis

The conflict in Ivory Coast has been characterized by violent violence. The United Nations has declared a humanitarian crisis, citing the mass exodus of Ivorians who fled fighting after the presidential election in November. Opposition leader Laurent Gbagbo refused to concede victory, prompting months of fighting between supporters of the two sides. The situation has become so tense that the United Nations is now maintaining a peacekeeping force in the country. France and the UN are now stepping in to provide assistance to the victims of this crisis.

Sri Lanka faces a fuel shortage

With a global supply glut and a limited amount of domestic fuel, Sri Lanka has experienced a major fuel shortage. The country's supply is so low that rationing has begun for vehicles. The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation controls two-thirds of the retail fuel market and imports and distributes the remaining fuel. Rationing has limited the amount of fuel that a motorcycle rider can pump while a car can pump up to 18.5 liters. Protests have broken out in front of the president's office, with 5,000 people demanding the resignation of the president.

Pakistan is on a 'grey list'

Since 2008, Pakistan has been on a 'grey list' of countries that have not met the FATF's requirements to combat money laundering and terror financing. Since then, Pakistan has worked to address these shortcomings by cooperating with a FATF-like regional body and the Asia Pacific Group for ME process. The FATF-accredited institutions are now urging the government to meet the remaining three criteria.

In total, England now have three world records for the highest team total in ODIs.

Food crisis in Ethiopia

The food crisis in Ethiopia is a clear manifestation of the deteriorating situation in the country. In 2005, almost a million Ethiopians were internally displaced and had no access to food or any other income. In addition, nearly a million people fled to Ethiopia to seek refuge from conflict in neighboring countries. The country is now in need of food aid and non-food emergency assistance to help people survive. Unfortunately, the government's poor infrastructure makes it difficult to get food to the needy.
